The story follows a girl named Tessa who comes to England to be with her brother(after there Aunt dies) who is working there. Everything changes when she was captured and held hostage by the Dark Sisters and forced to learn about a whole new world. She is being prepared for The Magister, whom wants to marry her. After being rescued Tessa stays with the Shadowhunters, where she meets Will and Jem, two Nephilim whom you come to know and love.
The characters are a lot of fun, easy to love or hate. I love the banter between Will and Jem, and the small connections to The Mortal Instruments series. I loved meeting the ancestors to the characters that we know from TMI, and even seeing some of the same characters again. The Victorian setting just adds so much more to the story, and for me, it made me enjoy the story 10xs more.
